A dozen General Counsels from local technology companies gathered to share ideas on providing legal services to clients in a more streamlined, cost efficient manner while maintaining or improving client satisfaction.
Lisa Tanzi, Deputy General Counsel supporting the Microsoft Business Division, kicked off the meeting with examples of the steps her team is taking to implement cost effective processes and included examples from Microsoft's patent procurement, product development and marketing activities. She divided lessons learned into three broad areas:
Getting Started
Recognize cultural challenges
Communicate the overall vision
Pick the right projects
Pick the right people
Building Momentum
Understand your existing processes
Communicate about progress and wins
Be able to quantify benefits (have data)
Making it stick
Becomes part of people's day jobs
Incentives and rewards
